Terms & Conditions

Welcome and thank you for choosing Hassims Removals & Vehicle Hire. Before your move begins, please take a moment to read these terms and conditions carefully. By proceeding with our service — whether or not you sign — you confirm that you have read and accepted these terms.

1. Valuables & Security

Before our team enters your premises, please ensure the following:

• All valuables — jewellery, watches, cell phones, tablets, expensive shoes, and liquor — must be boxed, out of sight, and transported in your own vehicle.
• We will not transport these items for security reasons.
• Handbags and wallets must not be left unattended.
• All boxes must be numbered for tracking purposes.
• All staff members will be frisk-searched by our driver/manager in your presence upon completion of the move.

2. Fragile Items

Please clearly label all boxes containing fragile items. Our team will take extra care, but the following conditions apply:

• Boxes must be marked "Fragile" — we supply Fragile stickers at R5.00 each.
• Nothing will be placed on top of fragile boxes.
• We are not responsible for breakage in boxes packed by the customer, as we cannot verify how items were packed or their condition before packing.
• Crockery not packed by us is transported at your own risk.

3. Furniture & Appliances

We take every precaution with your furniture, but please be aware of the following:

• We require you to protect all glass, mirrors, frames, TVs, leather and fabric lounge suites, desks, and new appliances (dishwasher, microwave, fridge, deep freezer, tumble dryer, washing machine) where possible.
• If large furniture must pass through a narrow entrance or exit with your consent and damage is foreseeable, we will not be held liable.
• We are not responsible for structural damage to old furniture (e.g. glue coming apart).
• We do not disconnect or reconnect electrical appliances. If we do so at your request, we accept no liability for water leaks or electrical damage.
• Washing machines without a travel bracket will be moved at your risk.

TV Advisory: If you do not have the original TV box with polystyrene inserts, we strongly recommend you transport your TV in your own vehicle. Modern TV screens are extremely fragile — if we move it, we accept no responsibility for cracked screens.

4. Packaging & Wrapping

We provide blankets free of charge. Additional packaging materials are optional and charged as follows:

Important: If you choose not to bubble wrap your items, we accept no responsibility for any resulting damage. We also cannot accept liability for items you wrap yourself, as we cannot verify their condition before wrapping.

All boxes must be properly sealed both lengthwise and breadthwise with buff tape. If buff tape appears tampered with during transit, please notify us immediately.

5. Additional Services & Charges

Shuttle Service: If your driveway is inaccessible or subject to weight restrictions, a shuttle within 30 metres must be arranged in advance. Please request a separate quote early.

6. Goods-in-Transit Insurance

Goods-in-transit cover is optional and available through Santam Insurance at R300 per R100,000 of cover. Any excess is payable by the client.

7. Delays & Waiting Time

If our team is delayed due to circumstances within your control — including load shedding, lift unavailability, or any other client-side issue — a waiting charge of R300 per hour will apply. This covers overtime for labour and the driver.

8. Customer Responsibilities

• It is your responsibility to ensure all items are loaded and offloaded. Items forgotten to be loaded do not become our responsibility.
• Please inspect the truck before the driver leaves to confirm everything has been offloaded.
• Any tampered or opened boxes must be reported to us immediately during transit — we cannot investigate after our truck has departed.

9. Theft & Security Policy

We have a zero-tolerance policy on theft of customer goods. If any staff member is caught stealing or tampering with your belongings, please contact us immediately and we will attend the scene and have the individual arrested.

10. Payment

Full payment by cash or EFT is required before goods are offloaded. No queries will be entertained after the truck has left the delivery address.
